About

We would like to introduce you to Gryffe Manor Nursery. Gryffe Manor Nursery has been on site since 1992, although our beautiful purpose-built nursery building was opened in 2012. The nursery is owned and managed by Alison Thomson, a qualified nursery practitioner, and William Tivendale her business partner. Alison is a working mother of three children who understands the need for quality childcare and all 3 of her children have attended the nursery. Alison forms part of the important team of qualified and experienced staff.

The objective of the nursery is to provide a childcare service of the highest quality and we feel that it is important, through this website you are made aware of the facilities we can offer you and your child.

Pre-school years are important formative years and it’s our aim to provide a number of activities and skills which will help your child develop to the best of his or her ability.

The nursery is situated on a country estate, in an idyllic woodland area of Houston. This provides plenty of opportunities for outdoor learning in our “Woodland Camp” situated within our grounds. We encourage the children to enjoy the wonderful surroundings and offer unique learning environments. Each age group has their own enclosed play areas also, with a variety of play surfaces and spaces to explore! It is important to note that the children will always be in the care of fully trained and qualified staff whilst exploring our woodland surroundings, as we work alongside the Forest Schools and Woodland Trust to ensure the best learning opportunities are available to the children.

As an important part of the day to day running of the nursery and the children who attend Gryffe Manor are fully up to date with a legislation and registered with the Scottish Care Inspectorate and HMI. Gryffe Manor Nursery have a number of policies and procedures to ensure the smooth running of the nursery and the high standard of the childcare on offer. These policies are too numerous to include; however, we would like to emphasise the importance of getting to know our policies and procedures and encourage you to become familiar with them. If you require copies of our policies, please do not hesitate to speak to one of the room leaders or any of the management team.

We are currently applying for accreditation for “Millie’s Mark Award” (it’s a government backed scheme to ensure every member of our staff team is fully trained in paediatric first aid) and as we work in partnership with Renfrewshire council we incorporate Renfrewshire Council’s “Continuous Personal Development” plan to meet the training needs of individuals and as a staff team as a whole.

Outdoor Learning

Each age group enjoys outdoor play and access the garden/woodlands every day! We have also developed an outdoors “Camp” consisting of a custom-made story telling chair, fantastic giant fire tent complete with its own Habba fire pit (fully fire and outdoor trained staff) and fun tyre swings amongst all the wonder of scenic woodland. Our staff are trained to the highest standard of woodlands training, working alongside the Forestry Commission and the Woodland Trust.

Specific fenced off and secure garden areas provided for each age group with ample space to run, jump, climb and most importantly learn in!
